Notice of GEU-UAW Local 6950 Vacancy Election

OFFICER ELECTIONS
All UAW Local 6950 members in good standing are automatically nominated for the following vacant officer positions whose terms expire in May 2018:

  • Vice President

DISTRICT ELECTIONS
All UAW Local 6950 members are automatically nominated for the following district-based vacancies whose terms expire in May 2019:

  • District 1: one steward from Avery campus; one steward from the rest of the regional campuses; one bargaining team district representative
  • District 2: seven stewards; one bargaining team district representative
  • District 3: seven stewards; one bargaining team district representative
  • District 4: seven stewards; one bargaining team district representative
  • District 5: seven stewards; one bargaining team district representative

ELECTIONS COMMITTEE
Five committee positions and one alternate position are available on the elections committee. Terms are for one year. Members of the elections committee may not hold another elected position, either through district or officer elections.

ACCEPTING NOMINATION
For steward positions, members may only accept nomination in one jurisdictional district, matching the district in which they are enrolled or employed. While the same applies to the bargaining team district representatives, they may hold the position of steward simultaneously. For officer positions, any member may accept nomination, but may not accept nominations for multiple offices. For the elections committee, any member may accept nomination, but may not accept nominations for another position.
To accept nomination for one of the specified positions, you must send your acceptance in writing to the Elections Committee at: UAW Local 6950, 1734 Storrs Rd, Storrs, CT 06268 OR uconngradunion@gmail.com. Acceptances must be received by mail or email no later than Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 5:00 PM. The written statement of acceptance should state how the nominee wishes their name to appear on the ballot and the district in which they are accepting the nomination. Please note that the voting for bargaining team members, district stewards, and the elections committee positions will take place at the General Membership meeting of the Union on October 4, 2017.

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS
Members accepting nomination for executive board officer positions may also submit a candidate statement (up to 500 words) that must be received by the nomination deadline of October 4, 2017 at 5:00 PM to the above address. Candidates may also submit a photo, which must have a square aspect ratio and be at least 200×200 pixels in resolution. In the case of contested positions, statements will be posted on the Local Union website no later than October 10, 2017.

ELECTION DATES
The elections for executive board positions will take place on October 18-19, 2017. Voting will take place at the following times and locations:

  • Student Union, Storrs Campus
    Wednesday, October 18, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
    Thursday, October 19, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Marine Science Graduate Student Lounge, Avery Point Campus
    Wednesday, October 18, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Main Lobby Area, Hartford Campus
    Thursday, October 19, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Members may only vote for bargaining team and steward candidates in a jurisdictional district in which they are enrolled or employed. Members may vote for officer candidates in any jurisdictional district.

A run-off election, if necessary, will be held on October 25-26. Voting will take place at the same locations and times of day as the initial voting. For more information, contact the Elections Committee at uconngradunion@gmail.com.
