2017 Charity Run

Are you an avid or amateur runner? Were you considering running or walking in this year’s Hartford Marathon Foundation races? Then consider running/walking for a good cause. Participation will not cost you anything extra, and you will get a free t-shirt!

The Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice (S.E.E. Justice) Committee of UCONN’s Graduate Employee Union is proud to sponsor a charity team to participate in the 2017 Eversource Hartford Marathon races on Saturday, October 14, 2017. All proceeds will go to the Windham Region No Freeze Hospitality Center in Willimantic, Connecticut. Simply complete the form below and send us a copy of your race registration receipt. For each participant, Local 6950 will donate to the Shelter an amount equivalent to your race registration cost.

According to the Shelter’s Mission Statement: “The Windham Region No Freeze Project, Inc. is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to the survival of homeless adults who are in the Windham Region. We provide safe temporary shelter; we strive to address unmet needs including food, clothing, hygiene, case management, emergency and transport funding; we facilitate regional community and social service agency collaboration to these ends.

Participation in the Local 6950 running team is open to all graduate employees at the Storrs Campus, as well as the Avery Point, Stamford, and Hartford campuses.
To run/walk as part of the Local 6950 charity team, you must register with us by no later than the end of business hours on October 1st

How to Participate
Follow these four easy steps to join us in October:

  1. Register for your race of choice as an individual through the Hartford Marathon foundation website.
  2. Keep a copy of your receipt.
  3. Complete the participation form by October 1st.
  4. Email a copy of your receipt to uconngradunion@gmail.com by October 1st.

Sponsor a Runner!
Consider sponsoring a friend who is not a graduate employee to join the team. You can sponsor a friend, family member, or a significant other, or an employee or volunteer from the No Freeze Hospitality Center! As a sponsor, you will pay for another teammate’s race registration fee and submit their receipt. By sponsoring a friend, you will help our Union build a stronger relationship with our local community, and you will help us raise more money!

If you are interested in sponsoring a friend or family member:

  1. Check “Yes” on the designated part of the participation form.
  2. Pay for their race registration; making sure that the runner’s information is in their name, but your name is on the payment.
  3. Complete a separate participation form for them.
  4. Submit their receipt.

If you are interested in sponsoring a No Freeze employee or volunteer, simply check “Yes” on the designated part of the participation form and then we will contact you separately afterwards.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming few days. Complete the participation form as soon as possible, so that we can insure your t-shirt size of choice.

Race Day Information
It is our plan to meet before the races begin to take a group photo. More information about Race Day information will be provided closer to October 14th.
